Studio Southwest Architects joins AIA 2030 Commitment.
Albuquerque, NM, January 20, 2021 – In August 2020, Studio Southwest Architects took another step toward environmental stewardship by joining the AIA 2030 Commitment and making a pledge to offset carbon emissions in their buildings. This pledge represents Studio Southwest Architects’ understanding of the global climate crisis and their acknowledgment of responsibility to further positive change in the architecture industry.
Studio Southwest Architects’ in-house sustainability practices have evolved to include a holistic approach to intersectional sustainability — integrating issues of social equity and resilience as appropriate for each project. By joining the AIA 2030 Commitment, they pair their firm values with accountability, and add their voice to the larger sustainability community. The AIA 2030 Commitment is a nation-wide initiative that aims to reduce greenhouse gas emissions generated by the built environment. This initiative has gained momentum amongst New Mexico AEC (architecture, engineering, and construction) firms and is indicative of a future baseline for design and construction.
Studio Southwest Architects has already begun to implement parts of their Sustainability Action Plan. Last Friday they held an office-wide virtual charrette to engage their staff and outline the firm’s future design strategies. They are hopeful that their involvement in the AIA 2030 Commitment and their advocacy of global conservation will inspire action and shift the mindset of the architecture industry.
