Studio Southwest’s Intern Architect III and Project Manager, Donna Marion, Associate AIA, LEED AP BD+C was recognized in a science paper recently published in Nature Communications. She was one of several research engineers at the University of Michigan who contributed to the project.
Prior to her career in architecture, Donna was on a team of scientists studying laboratory astrophysics.Laboratory astrophysics is the study of massive phenomena in outer space on a much smaller scale in a controlled laboratory setting. This research involved building microscale experiments, explode them with giant lasers, and record what happened. The published paper titled “How high energy fluxes may affect Rayleigh-Taylor instability growth in young supernova remnants” looks at how radiation and heat affect the fluid dynamics of an exploding star.
